Fort Knox has an estimated annual economic impact of $2.8 billion, and more than 16,000 people, including soldiers, De­part­ment of the Army civilian employees and contractors, work on Fort Knox. In fact, Fort Knox is two to four times larger than the next five largest regional employers in Hardin, LaRue, Meade and Bullitt counties.
